AB InBev to close down two breweries in the US and divest another

Anheuser-Busch InBev has announced the closure of two breweries in the United States and the sale of a third. The company stated that these moves would allow for increased investments in its remaining facilities and operations.

The affected locations include breweries in Fairfield, California, and Merrimack, New Hampshire. Additionally, AB InBev has agreed to sell its Newark, New Jersey, brewery to the Goodman Group, a property business.

Approximately 475 employees will be impacted by these changes. However, a company representative clarified that all affected workers would be offered alternative full-time positions within AB InBevs other US operations. The representative also mentioned that production from the three closing facilities would be relocated to other US-based breweries.

These strategic shifts are expected to enhance AB InBevs ability to invest in its core operations and its growing portfolio of industry-leading brands.

In the first three quarters of 2025, AB InBevs US revenue experienced a 1.2% decrease. Retailer sales dropped by 3.1%, while wholesaler sales declined by 3%. However, EBITDA showed a modest increase of 1.1%.

The company also reported a 2% decrease in US revenue in 2024, with retailer sales falling by 5% and wholesaler sales down 3.9%. Despite these challenges, AB InBev continues to focus on investments in other US breweries, including new projects in Georgia and New York announced earlier this year.

In a related move, AB InBev recently secured a deal to acquire a majority stake in BeatBox Beverages, a US-based maker of hard punches. The deal, valued at up to $490 million, will give AB InBev an 85% share in the brand. BeatBox, known for products like Blue Razzberry and Mystic Grape, has been expanding its presence across the US and entered the UK market in October.
