AMINA Bank Becomes First European Bank to Implement Ripple Payments

AMINA Bank has officially integrated Ripple technology into its banking systems, becoming the first European institution to adopt Ripple Payments. This milestone represents a significant move towards bridging blockchain and traditional banking.

Connecting Blockchain and Traditional Banking Systems

As part of this integration, AMINA Bank will connect Ripple Payments directly with its existing banking infrastructure, enabling clients to send cross-border payments more efficiently while staying within the regulatory framework of traditional banking systems. This solution addresses a major pain point for crypto-native businesses, which have long faced challenges in connecting blockchain-based systems with conventional banking networks.

Cross-border transactions, especially those involving both fiat currencies and stablecoins, are often slow, costly, and complex. AMINA's integration aims to streamline these processes by allowing settlements to occur seamlessly across both blockchain and traditional payment rails, reducing the reliance on outdated payment systems.

Myles Harrison, Chief Product Officer at AMINA, emphasized the growing demand from clients for payment systems that can operate across multiple payment networks. "Our clients require a payment solution that works with both fiat and stablecoin rails. Traditional banking networks were never designed to handle this, but with Ripple's technology, we can significantly enhance our capabilities and reduce cross-border transaction friction," Harrison said.

While AMINA has not disclosed specific transaction volumes or corridors, the bank's implementation places it among the early adopters of blockchain technology within the regulated European banking sector.

Ripple's Expanding Network of Financial Institutions

The partnership with AMINA adds to Ripple's expanding network of institutional integrations. Ripple has developed RippleNet, a global payments network that facilitates low-cost, near-instantaneous cross-border transactions for financial institutions. While not all members of RippleNet use XRP directly, a growing number rely on Ripple's On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) service, which uses XRP as a bridge asset to enable currency conversions without requiring pre-funded accounts.

By late 2025, Ripple had partnered with over 300 banks and financial institutions across more than 40 countries, a significant increase from previous years. The expansion of RippleNet has been accelerated by clearer regulatory frameworks following the resolution of Ripple's legal dispute with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Additionally, Ripple has introduced new products, such as the RLUSD stablecoin, which further support the growth of its network.

Adoption of Ripple's technology has been particularly strong in Asia, where the majority of Japanese banks now utilize Ripple's solutions. The company has also seen growing adoption in the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. However, only about 20-30% of Ripple's partners currently use XRP via ODL, mainly in high-volume remittance corridors.
