Virginia Tech has added four standout players to its 2026 recruiting class, following coach James Franklins lead.
Quarterback Troy Huhn Joins the Hokies
Four-star quarterback Troy Huhn, standing 64 and weighing 215 pounds, has switched his commitment from Penn State to Virginia Tech. Huhn, who decommitted from Penn State on October 16, remained under the radar until Virginia Tech extended an offer on November 17. After attending the Hokies final home game against Miami, he officially committed to Virginia Tech.
Tight End Pierce Petersohn Flips to Virginia Tech
Another major addition is four-star tight end Pierce Petersohn, who flipped from Penn State. The 65, 205-pound recruit had been committed to the Nittany Lions since June. Petersohn emphasized his trust in Coach Franklin as a key factor in his decision.
Running Back Messiah Mickens Commits to Hokies
Four-star Pennsylvania running back Messiah Mickens also chose Virginia Tech after previously committing to Penn State. The 510, 210-pound back decommitted from Penn State on November 19, visited Oklahoma, and ultimately decided to join the Hokies, citing loyalty to those who supported him.
Linebacker Mathieu Lamah Stays in-State
Finally, four-star linebacker Mathieu Lamah from Bristow, Virginia, committed to Virginia Tech after leaving Penn State. The 63, 225-pound linebacker expressed pride in remaining in his home state to help revitalize Virginia Techs defense.
With these four additions, Virginia Tech strengthens its 2026 class while Penn State now has six remaining commits. The Hokies are positioned to rebuild their roster under James Franklins leadership for the upcoming season.
Analysis: Virginia Tech's 2026 Class Gains Momentum
The addition of four high-profile recruits—quarterback Troy Huhn, tight end Pierce Petersohn, running back Messiah Mickens, and linebacker Mathieu Lamah—marks a significant shift in Virginia Tech's 2026 recruiting class. Each player brings size, skill, and prior attention from Penn State, highlighting the Hokies' growing appeal under Coach James Franklin.
Troy Huhn's commitment, following a late offer in November, provides Virginia Tech with a physically imposing quarterback at 6'4" and 215 pounds. Similarly, Pierce Petersohn’s flip underscores Franklin’s influence, as the tight end explicitly cited trust in the coaching staff as a decisive factor.
Messiah Mickens’ decision to join the Hokies after considering other programs demonstrates the program’s ability to attract talent through relationships and support networks. Mathieu Lamah’s in-state commitment strengthens the linebacker corps while reinforcing Virginia Tech’s local recruiting strategy.
Collectively, these signings not only bolster key positions but also signal a recruiting momentum that could reshape the Hokies’ roster. Penn State, losing multiple top prospects, now faces the challenge of maintaining its remaining six commitments. For Virginia Tech, this class positions the program for a strategic rebuild and competitive edge in upcoming seasons.
