Lincolnshire County Council has announced that selected bus routes will lower their fares to 1.50 beginning 8 December. The reduced price will apply to journeys serving Boston, Gainsborough, Louth, Mablethorpe, Skegness, Spalding and Stamford.
Some late-evening services traveling to and from Lincoln after 20:00 will also adopt the discounted fare. According to the council, the initiative is supported through funding from the government's Bus Service Improvement Plan and is expected to remain in place until March 2027.
The national bus fare cap currently stands at 3, but local authorities are permitted to introduce their own subsidised schemes. The councils head of transport, Mike Reed, noted that the cheaper fare aims to benefit both frequent passengers and those seeking an easy travel option during the festive period or for casual outings.
He added that the reduced price will continue throughout 2026 and into the following year as part of the councils broader effort to maintain affordable public transport across Lincolnshire.
