ROME Dario Vitale, the creative director of the Italian luxury fashion house Versace, is departing the company just eight months after his appointment, the brand announced Thursday. His resignation comes only two days following Prada Groups completion of its $1.375 billion acquisition of Versace, signaling the start of a new chapter for the label.

We sincerely thank Dario for his exceptional efforts in shaping the brands creative direction during this transitional phase, and we wish him every success in his future projects, Versace stated.

Vitale is set to leave the company on December 12. Versace confirmed that a successor will be named in due course, while CEO Emmanuel Gintzburger will temporarily manage the creative team.

Vitales appointment in April represented a significant moment for the fashion house. He became only the third creative director following the legendary Gianni Versace, who passed away in 1997, and his sister Donatella Versace, who led the brand until Vitales takeover. Vitale presented his first collection for Versace in September.

Analysis: Dario Vitale's Departure from Versace

The sudden departure of Dario Vitale as Versace’s creative director, just eight months after his appointment, raises questions about the future of the luxury fashion house. Vitale’s resignation, which follows the completion of Prada Group’s $1.375 billion acquisition of Versace, marks a critical juncture in the brand’s history. The timing suggests that the changes brought about by the acquisition could have influenced his decision to step down.

Vitale’s short tenure at Versace was highlighted by his debut collection in September, yet his departure has raised speculation about the brand’s long-term creative direction. His exit comes at a time when the label is in a transitional phase, and the leadership of CEO Emmanuel Gintzburger will now take over temporarily. The upcoming appointment of a new creative director will be key to the brand's future identity and success under Prada’s ownership.

The fashion world will be watching closely as Versace navigates this transition. With Vitale’s creative vision only briefly influencing the brand, it remains to be seen how his successor will build upon or shift the direction he set. What is clear is that Versace, under Prada’s umbrella, is entering a new chapter—one that will undoubtedly shape its next era in fashion.
