Reports claiming that Norway has deployed an autonomous vessel named BlueHarvester capable of collecting ocean plastic and converting it into fuel are false. Images circulating online are generated by artificial intelligence, not actual photographs of a working ship.

A search of the Norwegian Maritime Authoritys ship database shows no record of a vessel called BlueHarvester. The first known mention of the ship appeared in a Facebook post by Explorify on November 21, 2025, which described the ship as wave-powered and AI-guided, skimming plastic from the ocean and converting it into fuel using catalytic pyrolysis. The post claimed the vessel could operate autonomously for long periods without external support, processing over 3 tons of plastic during an initial eight-day mission in the North Atlantic.

Despite detailed descriptions, these claims are entirely fictional. The images associated with BlueHarvester are AI-generated and do not depict a real ship. Similar posts have appeared in other online communities, such as the Neil deGrasse Tyson group, featuring different AI-created visuals and slightly varied text, but the core story remains fabricated.

This misinformation reflects a broader trend of sharing speculative or techno-utopian innovations as if they are already operational in specific countries. Past examples include fictional automated systems in Germany claimed to return lost items to their owners.

Authorities and organizations like the Norwegian Maritime Authority have confirmed that no such vessel exists, and no real-world missions or tests have taken place. The idea of BlueHarvester is a creative concept rather than an actual technological breakthrough.

In summary, while the story presents an imaginative solution for ocean plastic cleanup, the BlueHarvester does not exist and cannot collect or convert plastic into fuel. The images and mission reports are entirely products of AI and online speculation.
