Erika Kirk Worries About Women In New York Not Being 'United With A Husband'

Erika Kirk, CEO of Turning Point USA, shared her perspective on New York Citys newly elected mayor, Zohran Mamdani, and the demographics of his supporters. Speaking at the Dealbook Summit, Kirk reflected on her time living in Manhattan and her fondness for the city.

During a discussion with journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin, Kirk commented on Mamdani, a democratic socialist and the citys first Muslim mayor, noting that he attracted a large number of younger voters and stood politically opposite to her late husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk. When asked for her opinion on the mayor, she framed her response from the viewpoint of a female voter.

In a city like Manhattan, where many are highly career-focused, theres a tendency to rely on government support in ways that might influence personal relationships, Kirk said. She expressed concern that young women could defer marriage or starting a family by depending on government programs rather than building partnerships with a spouse to support each other.

Kirk added that she found it striking that a significant portion of Mamdanis voter base consisted of women.

The remarks sparked reactions online, with some users criticizing her viewpoint. Elaine Welteroth, former Teen Vogue editor-in-chief, questioned the notion that government support substitutes for personal relationships, while journalist Katie Couric expressed disbelief. Others responded with humor, joking about depending on city services for companionship and support.

Some commentators also highlighted the irony of Kirks stance, noting her position as a female CEO following her husbands legacy at Turning Point USA while cautioning other women about career priorities versus family.
