MILAN EssilorLuxottica continues its rapid expansion in the medical technology sector. The Franco-Italian eyewear leader, valued at over 131 billion, announced it is acquiring Signifeye, a Belgian ophthalmology platform operating 15 eye care centers across Flanders.
Financial terms were not revealed, but the deal is projected to close by the end of Q1 2026. This acquisition underscores EssilorLuxotticas strategic push into med-tech, following a series of purchases over the last two years.
In May, the company acquired Optegra, an ophthalmology network with 70 clinics spanning the U.K., Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and the Netherlands. The Signifeye and Optegra acquisitions are viewed as complementary additions to the groups growing medical portfolio.
Francesco Milleri, EssilorLuxotticas chairman and CEO, stated, Integrating Signifeye strengthens our capacity to provide comprehensive eye care and elevate medical standards across the patient journey. He added, By merging our scientific and medical expertise with Signifeyes clinical excellence, we aim to enhance patient experiences and support better quality of life.
Signifeye provides both mandatory ophthalmic treatments and elective vision procedures, covering the full spectrum of eye health services. Kathleen Moons, CEO of Signifeye, commented, This partnership with EssilorLuxottica and Optegra represents a transformative moment. Combining global leadership in vision care with our commitment to clinical quality, we look forward to shaping the future of eye care together.
Since July 2024, EssilorLuxottica has expanded its med-tech footprint with several acquisitions: Italy-based Espansione Group (specializing in noninvasive medical devices for ocular diseases), an 80% stake in German diagnostic technology firm Heidelberg Engineering, and Ikerian AG, a Swiss AI-driven eye care technology company operating under the RetinAI brand.
The group has also strengthened its supply chain and technological capabilities. Last year, it acquired Automation & Robotics, a lens quality control specialist, and part of the South Korean PUcore company, which develops ophthalmic lens monomers.
EssilorLuxotticas portfolio now spans frames, lenses, medical instruments, AI-driven technologies, and wearable devices. In 2025, it expanded its Nuance Audio line, merging eyewear with hearing aids, including the acquisition of French startup Pulse Audition and Israeli company Nuance Hearing.
Financially, EssilorLuxottica reported a 5.9% revenue increase in the first nine months of 2025, reaching 20.89 billion, with a comparable 8.8% rise at constant exchange rates. Third-quarter sales rose 6.7% to 6.86 billion, driven by EMEA and North America markets, direct-to-consumer sales, sunglasses, wearables, and vision care products.
The group produces eyewear under its own brands such as Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Persol, and manufactures for luxury fashion brands including Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Chanel, Michael Kors, Moncler, Prada, and Ralph Lauren.
