Exploring homophobia and misinformation with Tucker Carlson and Milo Yiannopoulos for over two hours

Far-right commentator Tucker Carlson devoted a Wednesday episode of The Tucker Carlson Show to a discussion with Milo Yiannopoulos, whom he introduced as an experienced gay person. Carlson opened the show with a clip of a Ugandan talk show host asking a guest, Why are you gay? Carlson suggested that such questions are off-limits in the U.S., while misrepresenting Ugandas Anti-Homosexuality Act and questioning former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigiegs sexuality.

The conversation became increasingly extreme when Yiannopoulos joined. Once identifying as gay, Yiannopoulos now claims he is no longer gay and advanced several discredited theories about the origins of homosexuality, attributing it to absent fathers, overbearing mothers, or past trauma. He asserted, In almost every male case, [being gay] is a trauma response. It is not a sexuality. He further suggested that Jewish people and Black people become gay due to familial dynamics and endorsed conversion therapy, a widely condemned practice aimed at changing someones sexual orientation.

Yiannopoulos described his past experiences as intensely sexualized, claiming even being near a football player could trigger arousal, which he likened to demonic possession in a joking reference to Gorgoroth, a figure from Tolkien and a Norwegian metal band. He framed homosexuality as an addictive urge and said he returned to Catholicism after attempting conversion therapy.

Yiannopoulos also criticized contemporary culture, claiming that society has become gayed and that pop music now lacks heroic, masculine figures due to the mainstreaming of LGBTQ+ artists. Carlson echoed this perspective, suggesting that homosexuality is aggressively promoted in media. Yiannopoulos extended his critique to transgender issues, claiming parents of trans children, particularly single mothers, use medical interventions as a way to avoid admitting parental shortcomings.

He argued that creativity among gay individuals has declined because if homosexuality is normalized, it loses its cultural edge. Both Yiannopoulos and Carlson continued to question Pete Buttigiegs sexual identity, with Yiannopoulos asserting that Buttigieg is merely performing homosexuality and that his husband is the closest thing you can get to a girl. They also controversially described the couples adoption of twins as akin to buying black children, despite the Buttigiegs clarifying that they adopted children of any race.

The episode sparked widespread attention online, with social media users mocking Carlsons description of Yiannopoulos as experienced gay and highlighting the bizarre nature of the discussion. Comments ranged from satirical takes on gay qualifications to criticism of Carlsons approach and credibility.
