Four individuals apprehended for hurling apple crumble and custard at Crown exhibit in London

Four individuals were taken into custody at the Tower of London after they hurled food at the display case containing the Imperial State Crown, authorities reported on Saturday. The incident prompted a temporary closure of part of the historic site that houses the Crown Jewels.

A group called Take Back Power, identifying itself as a civil resistance organization, shared video footage of the event online. The group claimed that two members smeared apple crumble and custard over the crown's display case as a form of protest.

London police confirmed that the four suspects were arrested following reports of criminal damage to the display shortly before 10:00 GMT. The suspects are in custody. The Jewel House is closed to visitors while the investigation is ongoing, police stated.

The Imperial State Crown is traditionally worn by King Charles III during official ceremonies, including the State Opening of Parliament. He also wore it after his coronation when returning to Buckingham Palace in 2023.

The Tower of London attracts over three million visitors annually. Its main attraction, the Crown Jewels, includes crowns, sceptres, orbs, and other ceremonial regalia. Historic Royal Palaces, which manages the Tower, said staff acted swiftly during the incident, and the Jewel House was temporarily closed for police inspection. No damage to the Crown Jewels occurred, officials confirmed.

Take Back Power stated the demonstration aimed to draw attention to the groups demand for higher taxation on the wealthiest individuals.
