GameStop customer breaks record with $30K Pokémon card trade-in

A customer at GameStop made headlines after exchanging a Pokmon card for an unprecedented $30,494, marking the largest single trade-in in the retailers history.

On December 1, in Grapevine, Texas, the individual sold a fully authenticated PSA Grade 10 Holo Gengar card, which had a fair market value of $33,883. Following a thorough inspection and verification process, GameStop finalized the trade and handed over the record-breaking sum to the customer.

In a company statement, GameStop highlighted the milestone: This now represents the highest-value single trade-in ever recorded at GameStop. The retailer also addressed critics, noting that claims about low trade-in values are factually and demonstrably incorrect.

The announcement coincides with GameStops upcoming Trade Anything Day on Saturday, December 6, when customers can trade nearly any item for store credit, subject to certain limitations.

This record trade-in occurs amid a surge in high-value Pokmon card sales. In 2022, YouTuber and WWE performer Logan Paul set a Guinness World Record by purchasing a PSA Grade 10 Pikachu Illustrator card for $5,275,000. Previously, Paul had acquired a PSA Grade 9 version of the same card for $1,275,000 in 2021, highlighting the growing market for rare Pokmon collectibles.
