Grocery Chain Recalls Two Mixed Nut Products Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

Wegmans has announced a recall for two types of its Deluxe Unsalted Mixed Nuts due to a potential risk of Salmonella contamination. The alert, posted on the grocery chain's website on December 2, affects both 34-ounce family-size tubs and 11.5-ounce standard bags.

The 34-ounce containers are identified by UPC 0-77890-42131-4, a Best By date of July 28, 2026, and lot number DC 58041, located on the side below the lid. The smaller 11.5-ounce bags carry UPC 0-77890-42135-2, a Best By date of August 10, 2026, and lot number DC 58171, printed on the back near the bottom.

The grocery chain has not disclosed how Salmonella may have entered the products. Salmonella infection, known as Salmonellosis, is the most common bacterial foodborne illness in the U.S. Symptoms typically include stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting, and most cases resolve within a few days without medical treatment. However, the illness can be more serious for infants, older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and those with certain medical conditions such as sickle cell disease.

The FDA explains that Salmonella can survive the bodys natural defenses and reach the intestines, where it may damage the intestinal lining, leading to cramping and fluid loss through diarrhea.

Wegmans urges anyone who purchased the affected products to stop consuming them immediately. Customers can return the recalled nuts to any store service desk for a full refund, even if the packages have already been opened. The company has not reported any illnesses related to this recall but issued the warning as a precaution while the impacted lots are removed from shelves.
