Laura Mayer, Former ABC News Producer, Takes on Role as Head of Podcasts at Talkhouse

Talkhouse, known for series such as How Long Gone, Jokermen, and SubwayTakes, has announced Laura Mayer as its new head of podcasts. Mayer previously served as Executive Producer of Podcast Programming at ABC News.

The company, which also produces Alison Romans Solicited Advice, Thats How I Remember It with Craig Finn, This Is TASTE, and Life of the Record, recently celebrated success with Fela Kuti: Fear No Man, produced for Higher Ground and hosted by Jad Abumrad. The series reached number two on Apples Top Series charts and was recognized by The New Yorker as the best podcast of 2025.

Mayers role will focus on expanding Talkhouses video content, building on the popularity of SubwayTakes, hosted by Kareem Rahma, which has amassed hundreds of millions of views online. She will also oversee the production of narrative audio series and ongoing conversation shows.

Mayer brings extensive experience, having spent nearly three years at ABC News and previously co-owning a podcast venture with Sony Music Entertainment. She started her career at WNYC, was the first hire at Slates Panoply network, and created the Shameless Acquisition Target series. Her memoir, Tryhard: A Cautionary Tale of Clocking In and Spinning Out, is scheduled for publication by HarperOne in July.

Ian Wheeler, Co-Founder and Publisher at Talkhouse, stated, Laura Mayer is one of the most inventive forces in podcasting. We are thrilled to have her on board. She will play a key role in amplifying our roster of talented artists and creators.

Mayer added, I have long been a listener of Talkhouses podcasts. How Long Gone has been a daily companion for me. Im excited to contribute to Talkhouses growth and continue their tradition of authentic storytelling.
