Made in America: Searching for the ideal Christmas tree for the festive season

For the 14th consecutive year, "World News Tonight" has kicked off its annual Made in America series, highlighting the farmers who grow Christmas trees across the United States.

Rare and Unique Trees Available

Jonathan Claasen, co-founder of California-based Jonsteen Company, told the program that this year, customers have the opportunity to purchase both rare and endangered trees, as well as a variety of evergreen seedlings. Claasen explained that species like Joshua trees can now be grown safely at home, offering a unique way to bring endangered plants into personal spaces.

Support Local Farmers

In Grantville, Pennsylvania, Dave and Andrea Hogentogler, owners of Hoagy's Tree Farm, encouraged viewers to purchase Christmas trees directly from local farmers. They emphasized the importance of supporting the community by choosing locally grown, live trees for the holiday season.

Boosting Small Businesses in Maine

Nino Chiappone, owner of Kings Mountain Christmas Trees in Orrington, Maine, also highlighted the benefits of buying from small, local businesses. Chiappone noted that shopping locally helps sustain over 50 Maine vendors and supports the work of local artists, creators, and woodworkers, contributing to the health of the entire community.

Throughout December, "World News Tonight with David Muir" will continue to showcase American-made products and tell the stories of the people behind them.
