Maurice DuBois is set to step away from CBS Evening News after nearly 15 years with the program, a move that will leave the broadcast temporarily without a full-time anchor once this month comes to an end.
His last appearance on the show is scheduled for December 18, bringing to a close more than 21 years with the network. DuBois began his career at CBS in 2004 at the New York station WCBS-TV. He shared the news through a post on Instagram on Thursday, December 4.
In his message, DuBois called his time on the broadcast the honor of a lifetime and expressed deep gratitude for being welcomed into viewers homes each night. He reflected on the meaningful stories, remarkable people, and lasting relationships formed throughout his career, noting that he will carry those memories with him as he moves on.
Over the years, the Long Island native and Northwestern University graduate reported on a wide range of subjects, moderated major political debates, and earned a total of five Emmy Awards.
Uncertainty Around the Future Anchor Lineup
DuBois will not be the only familiar face exiting the broadcast. His co-anchor, John Dickerson, has also announced that he will be leaving the program by the end of 2025. At this time, CBS has not yet revealed who will take over the anchor positions.
Dickerson shared his own departure news in an Instagram post on October 27, expressing appreciation for his time at the network and for the colleagues who helped shape both his professional and personal growth. He did not offer a reason for his decision to leave.
According to CBS, Dickerson will remain in his role on CBS Evening News until the holiday season concludes, making it unclear who viewers will see behind the desk when the new year begins.
Analysis: Transition at CBS Evening News
The departure of Maurice DuBois marks a significant change for CBS Evening News. With nearly 15 years as anchor and over two decades at the network, his exit leaves the broadcast without a permanent anchor as of December 18. DuBois’ career at CBS has been defined by award-winning reporting and coverage of major political and social events.
Adding to the uncertainty, co-anchor John Dickerson has announced he will leave by the end of 2025. CBS has yet to confirm who will assume the anchor roles, creating a temporary gap in leadership for the program. Both departures highlight a period of transition and adjustment for the network and its audience.
For viewers, the upcoming months will feature interim arrangements, with no clarity on the future anchor lineup. The network’s ability to maintain continuity and retain viewer trust will be tested as these key figures step away. The decisions that follow will shape CBS Evening News’ direction in the coming years.
