Opinions of Blue Badge users sought on scheme

Residents of Cornwall who rely on a Blue Badge for parking are being encouraged to provide their opinions on the effectiveness of the system. Blue Badges are designed to help individuals with specific disabilities park closer to essential services and shops, whether they are driving or being transported.

Cornwall Council has launched an anonymous survey aiming to better understand the needs of Blue Badge users and address any instances of misuse. Currently, approximately 36,000 residents in Cornwall hold a Blue Badge.

Earlier investigations have uncovered cases where Blue Badges were falsified, altered, stolen, or sold online. Alarmingly, some badges belonging to deceased individuals were being used illegally. In response, the government has expanded enforcement powers, allowing plainclothes officers to inspect badges and seize those being misused.

Councillor Thalia Marrington, responsible for community safety and public protection at Cornwall Council, emphasized the importance of the scheme: "A Blue Badge can be essential for people with disabilities, significantly improving their daily lives. We want to ensure holders fully understand where and when they can park and avoid unexpected fines."

The survey can be accessed on the Let's Talk Cornwall website and will remain open until January 2026.
