Recent financial disclosures from Oxfam reveal that the profits from its charity shops have decreased by two-thirds over the past three years. The Oxford-based organization, which reported assisting nine million people globally in 2025, experienced a total income drop of approximately 28 million, bringing its revenue down to 339.4 million.
Earlier this year, Oxfam reduced its UK workforce by 250 employees out of 2,100 to save 10.2 million in payroll costs. Lorna Fallon, Oxfams Director of Retail, described the charitys financial situation as currently stable, despite increasing operational costs and significant cuts to the UK aid budget announced in February.
The charity attributed the decline in overall income mainly to reduced emergency appeal donations, which vary depending on global crises. Cuts to international development budgets by the US and UK governments have affected numerous aid organizations, contributing to growing challenges in the sector.
Former Oxfam CEO Mark Goldring commented on the situation, highlighting the growing global needs: UN agencies are managing more refugees than ever, yet available funding is shrinking. Demand is rising while resources to meet it continue to decrease.
Regarding the drop in retail profits, Fallon noted, People are spending less as money is tighter, and our operational costs are climbing. However, online sales have performed exceptionally well, showing a growing interest in sustainable clothing.
Oxfam stated that, despite funding difficulties, it and its partners were able to support 9.21 million people in 2024/25. This included communities affected by conflicts and humanitarian crises in Gaza, South Sudan, Yemen, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as populations confronting climate-related challenges.
