Pioneering CBS Anchor Connie Chung Despairs as Network 'Crashes Into Crumbles'

On the latest episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out, sports journalist and podcaster Pablo Torre interviewed seasoned news anchor Connie Chung to discuss CBSs current trajectory, where she once co-anchored the CBS Evening News. Torre asked, How does it feel to watch CBS at this moment?

Chung responded candidly, I cant watch it. The entire landscape of news has shifted. Opinion has overtaken facts, and truth no longer seems to matter. Audiences struggle to find reliable information, and that deeply troubles me.

She continued, CBS today is unrecognizable from the organization I knew. Greedy ownership, particularly Shari Redstone teaming up with David Ellison, has led the network to essentially crumble. The integrity that once defined CBS is being dismantled.

Chungs husband, Maury Povich, chimed in, Well see what happens with new leadership. Chung replied sharply, Its not something that can be fixed with a well see. Povich added, She was present during Trumps 60 Minutes interview, which I thought was reasonable.

Torre noted, Watching CBS News try to maintain its previous identity while operating under entirely new management makes it hard for anyone who values rigorous journalism. Chung agreed, emphasizing, When I worked there, CBS was led by William Paley, who safeguarded journalistic independence, and Frank Stanton defended the networks responsibility to the public before Congress. That tradition of accountability has been completely eroded.

Chung concluded that CBS no longer upholds the role of the press as a watchdog, with corporate interests overshadowing the mission of delivering truthful, independent reporting.
