The Powerball jackpot has now climbed to an estimated $820 million, ranking among the ten largest in the lottery's history, following Wednesday's drawing in which no ticket matched all the winning numbers.

Wednesday's winning numbers were 1, 14, 20, 46, 51 with the Powerball number 26. The next drawing is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6.

The jackpot has remained unclaimed since September, when the previous record prize of $1.787 billion was split between two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas.

The odds of hitting the jackpot are roughly 1 in 292 million. To play, participants purchase a $2 ticket and select five white balls from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball from 1 to 26. The prize continues to grow until a player matches all five white numbers along with the red Powerball.

Winners can choose to receive their prize as a lump sum or in 30 annual payments over 29 years. Since its inception in 1992, Powerball has contributed an estimated $36 billion to charitable initiatives.

Drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 pm ET at the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee.

Analysis of the Current Powerball Jackpot Surge

The current Powerball jackpot, now reaching an estimated $820 million, marks one of the largest prize totals in the lottery’s history. With no winner in Wednesday's drawing, the prize pool continues to grow, attracting attention from both regular players and those tempted by the massive sum. The jackpot has been building since September, following the record $1.787 billion prize split between two tickets in Missouri and Texas. Despite the high odds—1 in 292 million—millions of hopefuls are expected to purchase tickets ahead of the Saturday drawing, further increasing the prize amount.

The rules for winning remain the same: participants must match five white balls, numbered 1 to 69, and the red Powerball from 1 to 26. As the prize grows, so does the interest in the lottery, which has been a consistent revenue generator for charitable initiatives. Since its launch in 1992, Powerball has contributed an estimated $36 billion to various causes. The current jackpot’s climb to $820 million serves as a reminder of the immense public fascination with such life-changing sums, despite the slim odds of winning.

The upcoming drawing on Saturday, Dec. 6, is set to take place at 10:59 pm ET, and anticipation is only expected to rise as the prize continues to soar. While previous record jackpots such as the $1.787 billion in September have shown that large prizes can be claimed, this new surge offers another opportunity for record-setting wins. However, whether this jackpot will see a winner or continue to grow remains to be seen.
