The Estero library has reopened after a ten million dollar renovation, offering modernized spaces for reading, learning, and community events. Visitors can now enjoy updated interiors, expanded areas for children and teens, and improved facilities in a bright, welcoming environment.
The South County Regional Library in Estero has officially reopened after undergoing a significant $10 million renovation. Starting December 18, visitors can experience the newly updated space, which offers a refreshed and improved environment for reading, learning, and community activities. The timing of the reopening coincides perfectly with the holiday season, offering patrons a quiet place to enjoy books and other resources during the busy end-of-year period.
A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on January 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the library's location at 21100 Three Oaks Parkway. For those unable to attend, the library will host a community celebration on Saturday, January 10, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. This event will feature live steel drum music, balloon art, face painting, craft stations, and a variety of fun, interactive activities for people of all ages.
Originally opened in 1996, the South County Regional Library was housed in a building that once served as a bank data processing center. The library spans a total of 32,343 square feet and serves residents of Estero and South Fort Myers. The extensive renovation, which began in September 2024, focused on updating both the interior and exterior of the building, as well as upgrading mechanical systems to ensure better efficiency and service. Importantly, the entire renovation was funded using existing library resources, ensuring that no additional public funds were required for the project.
Interior Enhancements
- Redesigned spaces for adults, teens, and children, with new, modern service desks.
- Expanded children's area featuring additional collections and new play zones.
- A 760-square-foot shared programming room, designed for youth and teen activities.
- Early learning stations and public computers available specifically for children.
- A dedicated teen collection with exclusive computers and gaming setups.
- Four new study rooms, including one located within the youth services area, bringing the total number of study rooms to six.
- Updated layout in the adult section, with 12 new public computers for patron use.
- Space allocated for ongoing book sales organized by the Friends of the Library.
- Modernized restrooms, including the addition of two new family restrooms.
- Raised ceilings, a redesigned entrance, and new window panels to enhance natural lighting throughout the building.
Exterior Improvements
The librarys exterior has been significantly upgraded with architectural improvements that not only enhance the building's aesthetic appeal but also increase public accessibility. These changes make the library more welcoming to all visitors while improving its functionality as a community hub.
Operating Hours
The South County Regional Library is now open during the following hours:
- Monday to Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Friday and Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Throughout the renovation process, the library continued to serve its community through a temporary branch located at 18251 Three Oaks Parkway in Fort Myers.
