Residents can provide feedback on proposals for preserving historic scenery

Residents have the opportunity to share their opinions on the management of one of the countys treasured landscapes for the coming five years, with feedback open until New Year's Eve.

The Quantock Hills National Landscape Partnership in Somerset has unveiled its draft management plan, outlining strategies for preserving and enhancing the area up to 2031. The plan emphasizes safeguarding historic human-made features while promoting environmental stewardship.

Hugh Warmington, chair of the partnership, emphasized: "This is a key moment for the communities living around the Quantock Hills and for everyone who enjoys visiting this unique landscape."

The draft plan also incorporates measures to help the area adapt to climate change.

The Quantock Hills were the first region in England to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1956, protecting its scenery, wildlife, and heritage from future development. In November 2023, all of Somersets AONBsincluding the Blackdown Hills, Cranborne Chase, the Mendip Hills, and the Quantock Hillswere rebranded as national landscapes to highlight their role in promoting well-being and addressing climate challenges, though the change did not grant extra funding or powers.

Mr. Warmington added: "The draft plan outlines the key priorities for this extraordinary landscape and how it will respond to future challenges. While consultation has been ongoing over the past year, this is the first opportunity for the public to review the complete plan and offer feedback."
