SEC Approves DTCC for Tokenization Services: 3 Alternative Coins Poised for Gains

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has secured approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to test a regulated tokenization platform. This move represents a key step toward integrating traditional finance (TradFi) with decentralized finance (DeFi) and may create opportunities for several cryptocurrency assets.

DTCC Gets SEC Approval to Tokenize Assets

DTCC announced that its subsidiary, The Depository Trust Company (DTC), received a No-Action Letter from the SEC. This allows DTC to tokenize certain real-world assets under federal securities regulations. The rollout of the service is scheduled for the second half of 2026.

The approval is valid for an initial period of three years, during which DTC can issue blockchain-based tokens representing traditional securities. These tokens will carry the same ownership rights, investor protections, and legal entitlements as conventional securities.

The scope is limited to highly liquid assets such as:

  • Equities within the Russell 1000 index
  • Exchange-traded funds tracking major benchmarks
  • U.S. Treasury bills, notes, and bonds

Frank La Salla, DTCCs President and CEO, highlighted the transformative potential of tokenizing U.S. securities, including enhanced collateral mobility, new trading methods, continuous market access, and programmable assets, provided the infrastructure supports a secure digital environment.

Altcoins Poised to Benefit from DTCCs Tokenization

DTCC clarified that its tokenization service will initially operate in a "limited production environment" on selected blockchains, though specific networks have not been confirmed. The announcement has triggered speculation about which cryptocurrencies may gain from this initiative. Three prominent candidates are:

1. Ethereum (ETH)

Ethereum is widely regarded as a top contender. Experts suggest a high probability that DTCC could utilize Ethereum due to its established presence in tokenized assets. On-chain data shows that Ethereum hosts around 66% of the $18.48 billion in tokenized real-world assets, amounting to approximately $12.2 billion.

Ethereums extensive developer ecosystem, security features, and prior collaborations with DTCC position it to capture fees and liquidity from tokenized securities, reinforcing its role as a foundational blockchain for global finance.

2. Chainlink (LINK)

Chainlink is recognized as a bridge between on-chain and off-chain systems, aligning with DTCCs goals for regulated tokenization and data integrity. Its oracle network, cross-chain solutions, and proof-of-reserve capabilities make it suitable for institutional applications.

DTCC and Chainlink have previously collaborated on blockchain interoperability projects and corporate actions processing with multiple financial institutions, enhancing Chainlinks relevance in this sector.

3. Ondo Finance (ONDO)

Ondo Finance is a leading platform for tokenized equities, managing $361.2 millionor 51.64%of the $699.51 million market for tokenized public stocks. Following clearance from a two-year SEC review and a 12.67% growth in market share over the last month, Ondo is well-positioned to accommodate potential institutional inflows from DTCCs initiative.

As the program advances, Ethereum, Chainlink, and Ondo Finance may benefit through enhanced credibility, liquidity, and adoption in real-world use cases. Greater institutional participation in tokenized securities could also drive long-term structural demand for these digital assets.
