Jacquie Katz is leaving CAA after 15 years, including more than 11 years as an agent in the television literary division, most recently operating out of New York. She plans to remain in the city as she embarks on a new career, departing CAA at the end of the month to pursue a Masters degree in social work at New York University.
Katz began her journey at CAA in 2010 as an assistant in Los Angeles and was elevated to agent in 2014. She held the role of Co-Head of the TV Literary department from 2017 to 2019 and relocated to New York in 2021.
During her tenure, Katz represented numerous prominent television writers, directors, producers, and comedians, including Dan Erickson, Alissa Nutting, Pamela Adlon, Amber Ruffin, Desi Lydic, Emily Kapnek, Jake Schreier, Kate Herron, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Jonathan Spector, Marla Mindelle, Miki Johnson, Gabe Liedman, Heather Anne Campbell, and Asher Perlman. Several of her clients, such as director Jake Schreier, have successfully transitioned to feature films.
Katz has been a strong advocate for women in the entertainment industry, particularly female comedy writers and directors. Notably, her client Amber Ruffin became the first Black woman to write for a network late-night talk show.
Author’s Commentary: Jacquie Katz’s Transition from Talent Representation to Social Work
After 15 years at CAA, Jacquie Katz’s departure marks a significant moment in the television literary landscape. Her career trajectory—from assistant to Co-Head of the TV Literary department—reflects a sustained influence on the representation of writers, directors, and comedians in the industry.
Katz’s decision to pursue a Master’s degree in social work at New York University signals a notable career pivot, moving from talent advocacy to social advocacy. While her impact on television and comedy is well-documented, this transition underscores a broader commitment to supporting communities beyond entertainment.
During her tenure, Katz championed diverse voices, particularly women in comedy, helping clients like Amber Ruffin achieve historic milestones. Her departure will likely be felt within both CAA and the broader creative community, as she leaves behind a legacy of mentorship and advocacy.
Looking forward, Katz’s new focus on social work may allow her to bring the same dedication to fostering equity and opportunity in a different arena, illustrating the potential for transferable skills between industries.
