US fast-food chain introduces oversized portions in British restaurants

A well-known American fast-food brand has launched its iconic supersized sauces in the United Kingdom for the first time, sparking mixed reactions among customers. Famous for its Louisiana-style fried chicken, Popeyes originated in New Orleans in 1972 and opened its initial UK restaurant in East London in 2021. Today, the chain boasts over 100 locations across Britain and is becoming a familiar sight on high streets.

The new offering, called mega dips, presents enormous portions of sauce to accompany main dishes. These sauces are served in paper cups usually reserved for soft drinks. Two permanent varieties are available: the Mega Kickback and the Mega Ranch, containing 2,552 kcal and 2,380 kcal respectively.

For a slightly smaller option, the festive Mega Cheese dip is available for a limited time, with 527 kcal. Each mega dip is priced at 3.99. Customers can also choose a smaller Big size, weighing 160g instead of the full 400450g.

While these large servings are common in the US, they are relatively new to the UK market. In America, rival chicken chain Raising Canes has long offered oversized dips and plans to expand to the UK in 2026.

Social media users have shared their opinions on the new sauces. TikTok user @paulmorris8524 commented, This looks unreal! Ghost Pepper Wings with Mega Dips is the perfect combo. On Instagram, @marshlovesmallow noted, None of this teaspoon energy you have going on with your dips currently!

However, some customers were less enthusiastic. User @sulemann17 remarked, We dont need US portion sizes here man.
