VIDEO: Raccoon Sneaks Into Liquor Store and Gets Intoxicated

Employees at a Virginia liquor store returned to work on November 29, after the Thanksgiving holiday, only to discover a chaotic scene: over two dozen bottles shattered on the floor, with alcohol pooled among the broken glass. The unexpected culprit? A black raccoon, found asleep in the stores bathroom.

Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter confirmed in a social media post that one of its officers responded to the incident at an Ashland ABC Store, dubbing it a Black Friday break-in. The officer described the animal as very intoxicated. Photos shared by the shelter displayed both the destruction inside the store and the raccoon resting on its belly near the toilet.

After resting for a few hours and showing no injuries beyond what might be described as a hangover, the raccoon was safely returned to the wild. The shelter humorously noted on Facebook that it hoped the animal had learned that breaking and entering isnt a good idea.

The story quickly attracted local media attention. ABC 8 in Richmond featured the raccoon on a Crime Alert segment. Co-anchor Eric Philips called it one of the wildest stories the station had covered. Viewers reactions were shared, including one who wrote, The bottom shelf stuff will get you like that, accompanied by a crying face emoji. Another joked, At least he made it to the bathroom some of us humans cant even do that! while a third quipped, Ive heard of drunk as a skunk, but never drunk as a raccoon.

In other unusual animal incidents, authorities in Iowa responded to a baby deer causing disruptions in a hair salon earlier this year, proving that mischievous wildlife isnt confined to raccoons.
