YouTube Now Allows U.S. Content Creators to Receive Payment in PayPal's Stablecoin: Fortune

YouTube has started offering U.S. content creators the option to receive payments in PayPal's stablecoin, PYUSD, according to a report by Fortune, citing May Zabaneh, PayPal's head of crypto. Zabaneh explained that YouTube can now facilitate these payouts without directly involving itself in cryptocurrency transactions, simplifying the process for creators.

"What weve developed allows YouTube to avoid dealing with crypto directly, while still enabling creators to receive payments seamlessly," Zabaneh remarked. This PYUSD payout feature is expected to be available starting in Q3 2025, but currently, only U.S.-based creators can take advantage of it.

This move is part of a broader trend in the tech industry, with companies such as Apple, Airbnb, and X also turning to stablecoins for payouts. These platforms are increasingly using stablecoins as a payment method to bypass the complexities of handling digital currencies directly. YouTube's adoption of PYUSD, a stablecoin launched by PayPal, underscores how the digital asset is being incorporated into creator payment systems, extending its reach beyond just backend transactions.

Introduced in August 2023 and issued by Paxos, PYUSD was designed for easy conversions, cross-border transactions, and quick settlements within PayPal's network. The stablecoin aims to simplify everyday commerce by mitigating the risks of banking delays and market volatility.

PYUSD has gained considerable traction and is now supported on Visas stablecoin settlement platform, alongside other coins like Global Dollar (USDG) and Circle's EURC. It has quickly risen to become the sixth-largest stablecoin by market capitalization, valued at $3.9 billion, according to CoinGecko data.

As of now, neither PayPal nor Google has responded to requests for comment from CoinDesk.
