A California woman faces new criminal charges in connection with the death of a 25-day-old baby in 2015, more than a decade after being accused of killing her newborn. Authorities allege evidence links her to multiple infant deaths, prompting serious murder and child assault charges.
A woman from California who was previously accused of killing her newborn at a homeless encampment is now confronting additional criminal charges connected to the death of another infant that allegedly occurred more than a decade ago. Authorities have confirmed that these new charges pertain to an incident from 2015.
New Legal Charges Announced
On March 10, 2026, Ventura County prosecutors disclosed that Marisol Flores, 30, has been formally charged with one count of murder and one count of assault on a child causing death. These charges are related to the alleged killing of her 25-day-old baby in November 2015. Flores is already facing separate charges concerning the death of her newborn son on February 8, 2026, at a homeless encampment located on West Vineyard Avenue in Oxnard, California.
Investigation and Evidence Review
Law enforcement officials reopened the 2015 case while investigating the 2026 incident. During the course of this review, authorities identified new evidence suggesting Flores may have also been responsible for the death of her infant in 2015. As a result, the Ventura County District Attorney's Office updated the charges Flores faces to include two counts of murder and two counts of assault on a child causing death. The amended complaint lists special circumstances, including committing multiple murders, which could render Flores eligible for life imprisonment without parole if convicted. Additional aggravating factors cited include the alleged use of a deadly weapon and the particular vulnerability of the victim.
Details of the 2026 Incident
According to authorities, Flores gave birth on February 8, 2026, at the Oxnard homeless encampment. Witnesses reported seeing her visibly pregnant the day before, but when they returned the following day, she was no longer pregnant and the infant was missing. The baby was subsequently discovered within the encampment, showing signs of blunt force trauma. Emergency responders attempted to provide medical assistance, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene. Flores was immediately taken into custody following the discovery.
Legal Proceedings and Competency Evaluation
Flores’s attorney raised questions about her competency to stand trial on February 27, 2026. As a result, criminal proceedings have been temporarily suspended while a court-appointed psychologist evaluates her mental state. Flores is scheduled to appear for a competency hearing on March 26, 2026, at Ventura County Superior Court.
Potential Sentencing
If Flores is convicted under the special circumstances detailed in the amended complaint, she could face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Officials have highlighted the severity of the charges, considering both the number of alleged victims and the circumstances surrounding the alleged method of killing.
Ongoing Case Coverage
The case has received attention due to the link between two infant deaths that occurred over a decade apart. Prosecutors continue to investigate and prepare for court proceedings. Updates are expected following Flores’s competency hearing and any subsequent filings by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office. Authorities advise the public to follow official statements from Ventura County law enforcement for the latest information regarding the case.
