Revealed plans for a new teaching block with 300 places

Suffolk County Council has unveiled plans to expand Ormiston Endeavour Academy on Defoe Road in Ipswich, introducing 300 additional student places for those aged 11 to 16. The proposed teaching block would cover approximately 1,800 square metres and accommodate around 1,200 pupils, helping to meet growing demand from new housing developments north of Colchester Road.

A statement from Concertus, acting on behalf of the council, indicated that the new building is expected to be completed by September 2027, in time for the start of that school year. "This expansion will provide modern and inclusive facilities designed to enhance both learning and community involvement," the statement said. It added that the design encourages stronger connections between Ormiston Endeavour Academy and Thomas Wolsey School, a nearby special needs institution.

Planning documents reveal that the new block will include conventional classrooms as well as ICT suites. Additional features will include dining areas, a library, and group study spaces, according to reports from the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Suffolk County Council has opened a consultation period to gather public feedback on the proposed development.
