Note: This article contains spoilers from the Season 3 reunion of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
The reunion aired Thursday, bringing back the cast of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives to revisit the seasons most dramatic and controversial moments. Alongside the women, several of their partners appeared to address lingering tensions, ranging from personal conflicts to past romantic scandals. Every main cast member returned, with a few unexpected guest appearances as well.
Reality television veteran Stassi Schroeder hosted the reunion, guiding the cast through unresolved disputes and ongoing controversies experience she gained from Vanderpump Rules and Vanderpump Villa.
Even before the reunion officially began, emotions were running high. Backstage confrontations erupted as the women took their seats, and some cast members threatened to leave. Fathers of the cast members, including Dakota Mortensen and Brett Engemann, attempted reconciliation, though not all disagreements were resolved after months apart.
Update on Chase and Taylor
Season 3 ended with Mirandas ex-husband, Chase McWorter, going on a lunch date with Taylor Frankie Paul. The two had previously been involved in a soft-swinging scandal, but this marked their first formal date. Chase joked about sharing a kiss, while appearing as the reunions Dunkin Donuts barista. Taylor, now single at the time of filming, left the status of her relationship with Chase ambiguous.
DadToks Backstage Tensions
While the women walked to the stage, drama brewed among the fathers. Connor Leavitt, husband of Whitney, asked Brett Engemann to speak his truth regarding Demis communication with Marciano. Brett downplayed the situation, but Zac Affleck, Jens husband, argued they lived in different realities. Heated exchanges followed, including name-calling, and although some attempts at reconciliation occurred, the tension carried over to the on-stage discussions.
Revealing Sexual Trauma
Mikayla and Jace Matthews shared deeply personal experiences from their marriage, including Mikaylas history of childhood sexual abuse. Their conversation prompted emotional reactions from fellow cast members. Jessi Draper revealed her own trauma from being assaulted at 19, affecting her marriage with Jordan. Connor Leavitt and Demi were also visibly moved, noting the courage of those sharing such experiences.
Jessi and Marcianos Controversial Call
A previously unseen phone conversation between Jessi and Marciano Brunette was revealed, following her emotional affair this season. Marciano mistakenly claimed they had sex, while Jessi clarified they only kissed. The conversation triggered strong emotions from her husband, Jordan, as well as ongoing tension between Jessi and Demi over past disputes.
Demis Conflicts with Jen and Jessi
Demi addressed disputes from the season, denying certain claims of physical contact with Marciano while sparking a heated debate between the couples on stage. She also confronted her strained friendship with Jessi, with the two women remaining at odds despite previous attempts at reconciliation.
Dakotas Apology Rejected
Dakota and Taylors already strained relationship worsened after he sent inappropriate images to a family friend. At the reunion, Dakota attempted to apologize publicly, but Taylors parents refused to accept it, citing past dishonesty. Dakota left the stage in frustration.
Laylas New Relationship
On a positive note, Layla Taylor confirmed she is officially dating Mason McWhorter, Chases brother. She expressed happiness with the relationship, noting that her children approve and that Mason surpasses Chase in the kissing department.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is currently streaming on Hulu.
Author's Commentary: Tensions and Triumphs at the Season 3 Reunion of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives
The reunion special of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has undeniably set a new bar for reality TV drama. As expected, the episode delivered on its promise to revisit unresolved conflicts, unveiling both raw emotion and confrontational moments that left viewers captivated. What stood out most was the sheer emotional weight carried by the cast members, as they opened up about their personal struggles and complicated relationships.
One of the key developments was the update on Chase McWorter and Taylor Frankie Paul. The reunion did little to clarify their relationship status, leaving fans in suspense about the future of the duo. While their on-screen chemistry was undeniable, Taylor’s reluctance to fully commit to her connection with Chase added to the air of mystery that’s been building since the season’s finale.
Equally compelling were the backstage confrontations among the fathers. While some, like Connor Leavitt, sought to mediate tensions, others, like Zac Affleck, appeared deeply entrenched in their personal convictions, leading to clashes that carried over onto the stage. These conflicts highlighted not only the men’s involvement in the women’s drama but also the complexity of their own relationships, which often went unnoticed during the season.
However, what truly made this reunion stand apart were the moments of vulnerability. Mikayla and Jace Matthews courageously shared their experiences of childhood sexual abuse, opening the floor for other cast members to reflect on their own traumas. Jessi Draper’s raw confession about assault deeply impacted both the audience and her fellow castmates, further demonstrating how the series has become a platform for addressing difficult personal stories.
The episode’s most heated exchanges, though, centered around the ongoing conflicts involving Demi, Jen, and Jessi. Despite attempts at reconciliation, the tension between these women seems far from over. Similarly, Dakota’s public apology to Taylor was rejected, illustrating the deep fractures that have emerged in their friendship, likely irreparable after past indiscretions.
But not everything was steeped in drama. On a lighter note, Layla Taylor’s confirmation of her new relationship with Mason McWhorter brought a refreshing moment of happiness to an otherwise intense reunion. Her joy, coupled with her children's approval, was a welcome break from the otherwise tumultuous proceedings.
As The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives continues to air on Hulu, it's clear that the cast members’ personal journeys are far from finished. With unresolved tensions, ongoing personal growth, and a mix of new relationships and old conflicts, the show’s future is set to be just as unpredictable as its past.
