  3. 7-year-old horse rider receives recognition for bravery following fall

A seven-year-old horse enthusiast has been recognized for her extraordinary courage following a serious riding accident. On 27 July, Bunny-Mae experienced a fall from her horse at a livery stable in Cockfield, Suffolk, resulting in a fractured femur. She required two pins in her thigh and spent six weeks in a wheelchair during her recovery.

The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) and Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) presented her with a bravery certificate at the Bury Ambulance Hub, acknowledging her calmness and determination throughout the healing process.

Her mother, Jemma, said, "Her courage during the accident and throughout her recovery has been truly remarkable."

Dr Ben Peirce from SARS commented that upon arriving at the scene, it was immediately evident that Bunny-Mae had sustained a severe leg fracture. "What impressed me most was her incredible composure and bravery," he said. "I have treated many patients with similar injuries, including adults, and few show the level of calm that Bunny did. Her courage that evening was exceptional, especially given the seriousness of her injury."

Mum Jemma added that Bunny-Mae has now returned to horseback riding and continues to pursue her dream of becoming a barrel racer. "She remained positive and focused on her goal of getting back in the saddle, and she has achieved it. Her determination to continue chasing her dreams is inspiring," Jemma said.

The surgical pins placed in Bunny-Maes leg at West Suffolk Hospital are planned to be removed next summer.

Author's Opinion: A True Display of Bravery and Resilience

The story of seven-year-old Bunny-Mae's remarkable recovery after a severe riding accident serves as a powerful reminder of the strength that resides within individuals, regardless of their age. Despite suffering a fractured femur and enduring a difficult six-week recovery period, Bunny-Mae's composure and bravery were nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment of the accident to her return to horseback riding, her determination has been truly inspiring.

It is important to highlight the role of her support network during this process. While Bunny-Mae's own courage was undeniably the cornerstone of her recovery, the involvement of the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) and Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) played a crucial part in ensuring that she received immediate and effective care. Their recognition of Bunny-Mae's bravery speaks volumes about the rarity of such qualities, especially in such a young person. It also brings to light the importance of emotional resilience in the face of serious injuries—something that is often overlooked when discussing recovery from physical trauma.

As Bunny-Mae continues to chase her dream of becoming a barrel racer, her story serves as an example not only of physical healing but of the mental fortitude required to overcome adversity. It also calls attention to the need for continued support, both physical and emotional, for young patients facing difficult recoveries. Her journey reminds us all that courage isn't just about facing challenges head-on—it's also about maintaining focus on your dreams, no matter the obstacles in your way.
