‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Cast Members Hint at “Symbiotic Relationship” in Season 2 Filming

The cast of HBOs Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, energized fans at CCXP in So Paulo. The panel opened with a live brass band performing the iconic theme from the original series, while cosplayers brought the world of Westeros to life.

Actors Peter Claffey, playing Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk), and Dexter Sol Ansell, portraying Dunks squire Prince Aegon Targaryen (Egg), joined the event. The shows first season, comprising six episodes, is set to premiere on January 18 on HBO and has already been renewed for a second season.

Claffey described his character as an anxious, nervous but very lovable guy who is committed to doing what is right in the complex world of Westeros. He noted that Dunk learns much from the young and clever Egg, highlighting their mutual dynamic as central to the story.

Fans were intrigued by the connection to Game of Thrones, as Dunk is a direct ancestor of Brienne of Tarth. Claffey expressed admiration for Gwendoline Christies portrayal, pointing out similarities between the characters.

The panel also shared anecdotes about meeting series author George R.R. Martin, who hosted the cast for dinner in New York and urged the team to honor his work.

Video messages from Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole in House of the Dragon) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones) were shown, with Coster-Waldau jokingly offering advice about staying safe on set. Claffey was visibly delighted by the surprise message.

Ansell spoke about embracing his shaved look for Egg and shared lighthearted moments off-screen, including gaming sessions with Claffey. Claffey joked about their Mario Kart competitions as a way to unwind.

Excitingly, Claffey announced that filming for season two would begin shortly, mentioning the need for spray tans and line memorization but withholding plot details.

The series, co-created by Martin and showrunner Ira Parker, adapts Martins Tales of Dunk and Egg and takes place 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Co-star Finn Bennett, who plays Eggs older brother Prince Aerion Targaryen, reflected on his initial doubts about his audition, only to learn it had gone well.
