Melanie Martin has accused Jane Carter of attempting to claim part of the inheritance left for her son, Prince, by the late Aaron Carter. Prince, born during Melanie and Aarons engagement in November 2021, became the sole heir after Aaron passed away unmarried.
Aaron died in early November 2022, with authorities ruling his death an accidental drowning. According to Melanie, Jane Carter is seeking access to the funds meant for Prince.
Determined to protect her sons inheritance, Melanie announced on Facebook that she plans to bartend and continue running Love Merch, an apparel and beauty business created in honor of Aaron, to cover legal expenses.
Jane Carter has a history of legal troubles. In 2023, she was arrested for domestic battery following an altercation with a family member, reportedly fueled by alcohol. Jane also served as Aarons manager in the mid-2000s, a period when Aaron claimed she took $100,000 from hima claim she denied, resolving the matter shortly after.
The Carter family has faced multiple tragedies over the years. Aarons sister Leslie died from a drug overdose in 2012, while another sister, Bobbie Jean, passed away two years ago due to complications from fentanyl and methamphetamine use. This year, the documentary The Carters: Hurts to Love You premiered, exploring the familys struggles, and Prince made his first red-carpet appearance at the screening.
Aaron Carter, formerly of the iconic 90s boy band Backstreet Boys, left behind a legacy in pop music. His former bandmate AJ McLean received public recognition from Taylor Swift in an Instagram mashup video in October, highlighting the continued influence of the group.
The two-part documentary The Carters: Hurts to Love You is available on Paramount+, shedding light on the familys experiences and losses.
