Jonathan Roumie, the star of The Chosen, has shared that the series is impacting audiences far beyond television entertainment, even leading some viewers to convert to Christianity. Speaking on Monday's episode of The View, Roumie revealed that fans have contacted him, saying that the show encouraged them to go from lifelong atheism to attending church.
"Sometimes I randomly check my Instagram DMs, which is where Im most active, and I pick a few messages," Roumie told the cohosts. "In this instance, two people reached out who had never been interested in God, and both ended up exploring faith after watching the show. That first episode really grabs you. If God wants, He will find you and follow you."
He continued, "As they followed the journey of the show, they became interested in the Bible, started attending church, and eventually converted to Christianity. For lifelong atheists, thats truly remarkable."
Created by Dallas Jenkins, The Chosen tells the story of Jesus of Nazareths life, ministry, and the events leading to his crucifixion, focusing on his interactions with those around him. The first four seasons highlighted Jesus recruiting disciples, performing miracles, and spreading his message. Season 5, The Chosen: Last Supper, set the stage for the crucifixion and resurrection, reintroducing key characters such as Judas Iscariot, Thomas, Mary Magdalene, Mary of Nazareth, and King Herod.
Season 6 is scheduled for release in 2026 and will depict the crucifixion. Roumie admitted the role was emotionally challenging. "As an actor, you strive to find the truth of a character. For Jesus, this intensity is doubled," he explained. "I had to consider the emotional and psychological weight of torture and crucifixion. I asked God to help me understand it, and He did. Its something Im still processing."
Launched in 2019 as a crowdfunded project on VidAngel, The Chosen has aired on The CW and streamed on platforms like Netflix, Peacock, and YouTube. From the third season onward, select episodes were also released in theaters worldwide. All seasons are currently available on Prime Video.
