Justin Theroux, who stars in the TV adaptation of the acclaimed Fallout video game series, believes that post-apocalyptic tales hold a special allure because they feel plausible. The show is set 200 years after a nuclear conflict devastates the planet, with survivors navigating a dangerous and fragmented world.

Theroux, portraying Robert House, the ruler of New Vegas, shared his thoughts at the London premiere of the show's second season. He noted, "People understand the existence of nuclear weapons and hope they aren't used. That underlying reality makes the story resonate."

He added that fans are drawn to Fallout's characters because they are the ones left to make sense of the aftermath of a global catastrophe.

Lead actress Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy MacLean, a vault dweller raised in an underground bunker, attributes the series' popularity to its blend of humor, drama, and emotional depth. "The visual style and the music create a retro-futuristic world where the apocalypse becomes unexpectedly engaging," she said.

The narrative follows Lucy and two other main characters as they navigate survival in a nuclear-ravaged environment. Purnell praised the collaborative spirit of the production, stating, "Everyone involved, from the writers to the creators, shares a passion for the game. My role is to bring Lucy authentically to life, and together we honor the source material."

Kyle MacLachlan, who portrays Hank MacLean, Lucy's father and vault overseer, emphasized the show's faithfulness to the video games. "The creators have built a universe that is intricate, immersive, and compelling," he said. He also highlighted that audiences are captivated by imagining how they might act in similar situations, combined with clever and engaging writing.

Theroux, who first played Fallout in 1997, has not yet experienced New Vegas, the setting for the upcoming series. To prepare for his role, he spent hours watching gameplay online but admitted that surviving in such a harsh environment himself would be impossible. "I don't even go camping," he joked.

The second season of Fallout is scheduled to premiere in the UK on December 17 via Amazon Prime.
