Bethenny Frankel emphasizes the importance of maintaining one boundary for divorcing parents

Bethenny Frankel revealed that the turmoil of her nearly ten-year divorce was more challenging than her turbulent childhood. "I lost hair. I thought I would never make it through," the "Real Housewives of New York City" star admitted. Yet, she emphasized that she never spoke negatively about her ex-husband to their daughter.

During her appearance on the podcast Call Her Daddy, Frankel described her divorce from Jason Hoppy as far messier than any event from her early life. She recounted witnessing her mothers self-harm, living through extreme household chaos, and experiencing dangerous situations involving guns and the mafia. "I've been through everything," Frankel said. "Nothing compares to what my divorce was for 10 years."

Frankel married Hoppy in 2010, and they had a daughter, Bryn, soon after. The couple separated in 2012, and their divorce was finalized in 2021. She described the decade-long process as deeply taxing: "I literally thought Id never be happy again. I had to keep going for my daughter."

Despite the difficulties, Frankel maintained a strict boundary: she never criticized her ex in front of Bryn. "I never talked bad in front of her. Kids will sense it energetically, but you don't have to voice it," she explained. She urged divorcing parents to follow the same principle, noting that negativity toward the other parent can be profoundly harmful to children. "You should never ever say a bad thing about the other parent. It's the worst thing you could do to a child."

Frankel also emphasized nurturing her daughters sense of love and security. She shared aspects of her own childhood with Bryn and incorporated therapy into their lives, helping her daughter grow into a happy and resilient person. "Therapy is a big thing in my house. Shes a beautiful, happy human being," Frankel said.
