Bethenny Frankel emphasizes the importance of one boundary for divorcing parents

Bethenny Frankel has revealed that the challenges of her nearly decade-long divorce were far more intense than her already tumultuous childhood. "I lost hair. I genuinely thought I wouldn't make it through," said the former "Real Housewives of New York City" star.

During her appearance on Call Her Daddy, Frankel opened up about her extended divorce from second husband Jason Hoppy, describing it as more chaotic than growing up in a home marked by her mother's struggles with self-harm and other traumatic events. "I witnessed my mother attempt to take her own life. I spent much of my life trying to help her in those moments. I've encountered guns, the mafia, and all sorts of dangerous situations. Yet nothing compared to my ten-year divorce," she explained.

Frankel married Hoppy in 2010, shortly before the birth of their daughter, Bryn. The couple separated in 2012, and their divorce was finalized in 2021. Despite the stress and emotional toll, Frankel emphasized that she "never" spoke negatively about Hoppy in front of their daughter. "I never said a bad word about him around her. Even though she might have sensed tension, I always kept it from becoming a negative influence," she said.

Frankel stressed that this approach is a crucial lesson for all parents navigating separation. "Children notice and understand more than we think. You dont need to justify yourself to them or speak ill of the other parent. Saying negative things about the other parent is one of the worst things a child can experience," she said.

Instead, Frankel focuses on ensuring her daughter feels loved and supported, often sharing aspects of her own upbringing in a constructive way. "Therapy is an important part of our lives, and its helped both of us. Shes growing up as a happy and confident young person," Frankel shared.
