Blumhouse Joins Curry Barker's Romantic Horror Film 'Obsession' — Check Out The Trailer

Focus Features has released the first teaser for Obsession, the highly anticipated horror movie from director and writer Curry Barker. The studio acquired the film during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in a deal reported to exceed $15 million, with Jason Blums Blumhouse now on board as a partner.

The story follows Michael Johnston as a hopeless romantic who breaks the mystical One Wish Willow to win the affection of his crush. While his wish comes true, he soon realizes that some desires carry a dangerous and dark consequence.

Premiering in the midnight section at TIFF this year, Obsession went on to play sold-out screenings at Fantastic Fest and won the Peoples Choice Award at Sitges. The film is scheduled for a U.S. release on May 15, 2026.

The cast also features Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter. Production was led by James Harris through Teashop Productions, Haley Nicole Johnson via Under the Shell, and Christian Mercuri on behalf of Capstone Pictures, which fully financed the project. Blumhouses Jason Blum joins as an executive producer. Currently, the film holds a 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Focus Features recent releases include the psychological drama Anemone, Yorgos Lanthimos Bugonia, Chlo Zhaos Hamnet, and Alex Russells Lurker. Upcoming titles include The History of Sound on December 18 and Song Sung Blue on Christmas Day.

Blumhouse, now merged with Atomic Monster, has a busy 2026 lineup including Five Nights at Freddys 2, Lee Cronins The Mummy, Mortal Kombat 2, Jacob Chases Insidious, and Rob Savages Other Mommy, alongside Obsession. Additionally, Blumhouse is collaborating with Spooky Pictures on Barkers next project, Anything But Ghosts, which Barker co-wrote and will star in with Cooper Tomlinson.
