'Boston Blue' and 'Sheriff Country' quickly renewed for Season 2 by CBS

CBS has confirmed that both Boston Blue and Sheriff Country will return for a second season, according to Variety. Each series is a spinoff of an existing CBS show, with Boston Blue originating from Blue Bloods and Sheriff Country stemming from Fire Country.

Both programs air on Friday evenings and launched as part of CBS's fall schedule on October 17. So far, six episodes of each show have been broadcast. The series are produced by CBS Studios.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, commented on the renewals: "These Friday night shows have quickly captured viewers, with audiences embracing both Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming. Early renewals highlight the strength of engaging characters, captivating storytelling, and the outstanding talent involved on and off camera."

According to Nielsen Live+7 data across multiple platforms, Sheriff Country averages 7.6 million viewers per episode, while Boston Blue reaches an average of 8 million. The shows have helped CBS dominate Friday night viewership since their premieres.

Sheriff Country features Morena Baccarin, Matt Lauria, W. Earl Brown, Christopher Gorham, and Michele Weaver. The series follows Sheriff Mickey Fox (Baccarin) as she tackles crime in the small town of Edgewater, California, while managing intricate family relationships. Created by Max Thierot, Tony Phelan, and Joan Raterthe same team behind Fire Countrythe show also lists Matt Lopez, Jerry Bruckheimer, and KristieAnne Reed as executive producers.

In Boston Blue, Donnie Wahlberg reprises his Blue Bloods role as former NYPD Detective Danny Reagan, now working with the Boston Police Department. His partner, Detective Lena Silver, is played by Sonequa Martin-Green. The cast also includes Gloria Reuben, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Mika Amonsen, and Ernie Hudson. Amonsen portrays Sean Reagan, Dannys son, previously played by Andrew Terraciano on Blue Bloods. The series was developed by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, who also serve as executive producers alongside Wahlberg, Bruckheimer, and Reed.
