CBS has confirmed the first renewals for its 2025-26 lineup, granting second seasons to its debut dramas Boston Blue and Sheriff Country for 2026-27. Both series are produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Jerry Bruckheimer Television and serve as spinoffs of popular CBS shows Blue Bloods and Fire Country.
According to Nielsens seven-day multiplatform ratings, these shows are currently the highest-rated newcomers of the fall. CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach commented, Friday nights have quickly welcomed Boston Blue and Sheriff Country, with audiences embracing them on broadcast and streaming platforms. These early renewals showcase the strength of engaging characters, gripping storytelling, and outstanding talent both in front of and behind the camera.
Joining established series like FBI and Ghosts, which already have multi-season commitments through 2026-27, the two new dramas bolster CBSs prime-time slate for next season.
Sheriff Country
Premiering in October after being greenlit nearly 18 months prior, Sheriff Country stars Morena Baccarin as Mickey Fox, the sheriff of Edgewater, a fictional Northern California town. The ensemble cast includes Matt Lauria, W. Earl Brown, Christopher Gorham, and Michele Weaver. Averaging 7.6 million cross-platform viewers in seven days, the show consistently dominates its 8 p.m. Friday slot, outperforming its parent series, Fire Country.
The series is executive produced by Max Thieriot, Tony Phelan, Joan Rater, Matt Lopez, Jerry Bruckheimer, and KristieAnne Reed.
Boston Blue
Boston Blue follows Donnie Wahlbergs Blue Bloods character, Danny Reagan, as he joins the Boston police force. Sonequa Martin-Green plays his new partner, Lena Silver, with additional cast members including Gloria Reuben, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Mika Amonsen, and Ernie Hudson. The series attracts 8 million cross-platform viewers per episode over seven days.
Showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis executive produce alongside Wahlberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, and KristieAnne Reed.
