Brian May, Mick Fleetwood & other musicians honor Steve Cropper

Steve Cropper, the legendary American guitarist known for his work with Booker T. & the M.G.s, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 84. His passing has sparked tributes from many renowned musicians, including Queens Brian May and Fleetwood Macs Mick Fleetwood.

Brian May, who collaborated with Cropper and his band The Midnight Hour on their 2024 album Friendlytown, shared his condolences on Instagram: We have lost one of the original guitar legends. Steve Croppers influence on electric guitar players is immeasurable and will continue to inspire generations. He added that he felt fortunate to have met and worked with Cropper, describing him as a generous and kind-hearted individual whose impact on music was deeply felt by everyone around him.

Mick Fleetwood referred to Cropper as a pioneering musician and an extraordinary person and reflected on the times they shared the stage together. The music world has lost a true treasure, he wrote.

Dan Aykroyd, who collaborated with Cropper in the Blues Brothers project, called him a towering musical talent and emphasized that The Blues Brothers would not have existed without his contributions. It was a privilege to share both studios and stages with him.

Other notable artists paying tribute include Dave Davies of The Kinks, former Whitesnake singer David Coverdale, and guitarist Joe Bonamassa, all recognizing Croppers lasting influence on the music world.
