Rothbart emphasized that the arm was designed to enhance the character rather than overshadow him visually: It shouldnt feel like a Terminator arm. Prosthetics designer Steve Painter added realism by having Ceesay wear a physical prosthetic over his own arm during filming. Weeks of work went into creating a three-dimensional version of the arm, so everyone on set could interact with it naturally, Painter said. Gonzales noted that once the prosthetic was in place, it could be used freely without concern for green-screen limitations.
