Confirmed: Nicolas Cage's live-action Spider-Man in “Spider-Noir” is not Peter Parker, new variant poster reveals

Marvel is set to introduce a fresh take on a web-slinging hero in live-action. Nicolas Cage will headline the upcoming series Spider-Noir, portraying not Peter Parker, but the beloved variant Ben Reilly.

Recently released posters for the Prime Video show confirm Cages role as Ben, depicting him as an older, struggling private investigator in 1930s New York. The series will be available in both color and black-and-white versions, reflected in the poster designs.

The official synopsis reveals that Ben must confront his previous life as the citys only superhero. In the visuals, the door of Bens detective office is marked with his initials and surname, while a spider dangles from its web. Through the frosted glass, Cages silhouette is visible, complete with his iconic hat and upturned-collar jacket, with only his luminous eyes clearly seen. The tagline on the poster simply states: "Nicolas Cage is Spider-Noir."

The live-action series is inspired by the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir, with Cage reprising the character he voiced in 2018s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Unlike the comics, where Spider-Man Noir is an alternate Peter Parker, the series will focus on Ben Reilly. In the comics, Ben is Peter Parkers clone who evolves from rival to ally, first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #149 in 1975 and becoming a fan-favorite variant over the years.

Alongside Cage, the cast includes Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, Brendan Gleeson, Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson, and Kai Caster.

The series is produced by co-showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, in collaboration with the Oscar-winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Spider-Noir is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video in 2026.

Analysis: Spider-Noir Reimagines a Classic Character

Marvel’s decision to center Spider-Noir on Ben Reilly rather than Peter Parker marks a significant shift in approach for the live-action adaptation. Nicolas Cage reprising the role he voiced in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse adds continuity for fans while offering a fresh perspective on a beloved alternate Spider-Man.

The series’ 1930s noir setting and dual release in color and black-and-white underscore the creators’ intent to embrace the period aesthetic, giving Cage’s portrayal of an older, world-weary private investigator a distinctive visual tone. The promotional material, including posters with Cage’s signature silhouette and glowing eyes, conveys a brooding atmosphere consistent with noir traditions.

By focusing on Ben Reilly, Marvel explores a character who has evolved from a clone of Peter Parker into a fan-favorite variant, allowing the story to delve into themes of identity, legacy, and redemption. The ensemble cast, combined with the experienced creative team of Oren Uziel, Steve Lightfoot, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, suggests a series that aims to balance action, character depth, and stylistic flair.

Spider-Noir’s 2026 release on Prime Video positions it as both a continuation of Marvel’s multiverse storytelling and an experiment in tone and character focus. The emphasis on a darker, period-specific narrative differentiates it from other Spider-Man adaptations and highlights the franchise’s ongoing commitment to exploring alternative takes on iconic heroes.
