Cowboys Defensive Coordinator Matt Eberflus Emphasizes Two Key Factors in Defensive Turnaround

The Dallas Cowboys have recently shown impressive form, defeating both the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs within just four days, sparking renewed playoff hopes among their fans.

Although there is still work to be done for the Cowboys to be serious postseason contenders, the team can take pride in the noticeable improvement of their previously criticized defense. Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus identified the primary reasons behind this resurgence.

Consistency and continuity, Eberflus explained, as reported by Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Throughout the season, the Cowboys defense struggled with both consistency and cohesion. However, recent performances have shown progress, highlighted by critical stops against the Chiefs and Eagles when they were most needed.

Early in the year, Dallas defense was often a weak point, with several quarterbacks, including the now-bench Giants QB Russell Wilson, posting career-best performances against them. The unit has since tightened up, aided by returning players from injuries, giving Dallas a legitimate shot at a Wild Card berth in the NFC.

On the offensive side, Dak Prescott and his teammates are regaining their early-season rhythm after a temporary slump, further boosting the teams prospects. Currently, the Cowboys hold a 6-5-1 record, above the .500 mark, and will face the struggling Detroit Lions on the road this Thursday, with kickoff scheduled for 8:15 pm ET.
