Netflix is expanding its action offerings with a new project set in the Extraction universe. Recent announcements reveal a South Korean spin-off that promises to bring a fresh perspective to the franchise.

TYGO: Netflixs Korean Addition to the Extraction Universe

The upcoming film, TYGO, will star Don Lee, Lee Jin-uk, and BLACKPINKs Lisa, marking her first major role in a feature film. The project is directed by Lee Sang-yong and written by Cha Woo-jin. The story follows a former child soldier turned mercenary who seeks vengeance against Koreas criminal underworld after a mission goes awry.

Don Lee takes on the title role of Tygo. TYGO introduces a distinctly Korean perspective to the global Extraction world. We are eager to deliver its intense action to audiences everywhere, he said. Lisa commented, Appearing in an action film has long been a dream, and debuting in such a thrilling movie is truly special. Lee Jin-uk added, As a fan of the Extraction series, joining this universe is an incredible honor.

Production and Creative Team

The film is produced by Big Punch Pictures and AGBO, with co-production support from Nova Film and B&C Content. Angela Russo-Otstot, producer and chief creative officer at AGBO, stated, Were excited to explore the Extraction universe from a South Korean perspective, collaborating with the legendary Don Lee and visionary director Lee Sang-yong.

Expansion of the Extraction Universe

TYGO adds to Netflix and AGBOs growing Extraction franchise, which began with Extraction in 2020 and continued with Extraction 2 in 2023. The films are inspired by the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, and Anthony Russo. In addition, a separate Extraction series set in Libya, featuring Natalie Dormer, Omar Sy, and Boyd Holbrook, is also in development.

Analysis: Netflix Broadens the Extraction Universe with TYGO

Netflix continues to expand its Extraction franchise, and TYGO represents a strategic move into the South Korean market. By casting Don Lee in the lead role and introducing Lisa from BLACKPINK, the project signals a mix of established action talent and global pop culture appeal.

The decision to set TYGO in Korea provides a fresh narrative lens within the established Extraction universe. The storyline—centered on a former child soldier seeking vengeance—aligns with the franchise's hallmark intense action sequences while offering a distinct cultural context.

Production involvement from AGBO, Big Punch Pictures, Nova Film, and B&C Content ensures high-quality execution, leveraging experienced producers and directors. This multi-studio collaboration reflects Netflix's commitment to scaling its action franchises internationally.

Overall, TYGO is positioned to strengthen the Extraction brand globally, attract new audiences, and deepen engagement in markets outside North America, while maintaining the core themes that have defined the franchise since 2020.
