Ole Miss icon Eli Manning had a short, humorous reply to new LSU head coach Lane Kiffins story about Rebels fans allegedly trying to run him off the road while leaving Mississippi for Baton Rouge.

On X, Manning, 44, shared a single-word reaction: Oops! alongside a news headline about the reported incident.

Manning, who starred as a quarterback at Ole Miss from 2000 to 2003 and had his No. 10 jersey retired, is familiar with the fervor of SEC football. His father, Archie Manning, also enjoyed a legendary career with the Rebels from 1968 to 1970.

Kiffin addressed the uproar during his introductory press conference at Tiger Stadium, recalling the hostility he faced from fans as he departed Oxford with his 16-year-old son, Knox. It was very hard and it was really challenging, Kiffin said. Its the passion of the SEC. I understand that. I dont get emotional with it that airport scene, and Knox and I driving and people trying to run us off the road, man, and the things they said to us. And then we got here [to Baton Rouge], and we had been here six minutes [and fans are saying], We love you, Coach. Youre the best ever. Thats the SEC, Ive been around long enough to know that, and its just the passion of the SEC. Im not upset at those reactions by fans. People get really upset when you leave somewhere because they feel hurt.

Kiffin announced his move to LSU via social media following Ole Miss 38-19 Egg Bowl win over Mississippi State, describing it as a family decision after six successful seasons at Ole Miss. He signed a seven-year deal with LSU worth $13 million annually, while Ole Miss promoted defensive coordinator Pete Golding to permanent head coach.

Author's Analysis: SEC Passion on Full Display

The exchange between Eli Manning and Lane Kiffin highlights the intensity of SEC football culture. Manning's lighthearted "Oops!" on X contrasts sharply with Kiffin's recounting of fan hostility while leaving Oxford, showing how deeply fans invest emotionally in their programs.

Kiffin's experience underscores the dual nature of SEC support: fierce loyalty at home and, at times, personal confrontations during transitions. His ability to reflect on these events calmly emphasizes his understanding of the environment he now leads at LSU.

From a broader perspective, the episode illustrates the personal impact of coaching moves in high-profile college football. Decisions like Kiffin's, while framed as family and career considerations, inevitably provoke strong reactions, reinforcing the passion and volatility that define the SEC.
