Exclusive: Bob the Drag Queen makes stunning Broadway debut in "Moulin Rouge!" with special homage to RuPaul

Bob the Drag Queen, winner of RuPaul's Drag Race, is set to dazzle Broadway with his debut performance in the musical Moulin Rouge!, taking the stage in the role of Harold Zidler. Starting January 27, Bob will bring the iconic character to life in this stage adaptation of Baz Luhrmanns 2001 film, which starred Nicole Kidman. Entertainment Weekly has revealed an exclusive first glimpse, featuring both photos and a video clip of Bob in costume.

In the production, Bob plays Zidler, the flamboyant emcee and owner of the legendary Parisian nightclub, a role originally portrayed by Jim Broadbent in the film. The video accompanying the reveal is set to RuPaul's classic "Cover Girl," a nod to the Drag Race heritage, capturing Bob's entrance in the grand style reminiscent of the shows Main Stage moments. In the video, Bob sashes across the stage, declaring, "The category is: Spectacular!" with a dramatic flair.

This marks Bobs Broadway debut, adding him to the growing list of Drag Race alums who have transitioned to stage roles on the famed New York theater circuit. Past Drag Race stars who have made their mark on Broadway include Milan (Hairspray, Motown the Musical), Peppermint (Head Over Heels), Jinkx Monsoon (Chicago, Pirates! The Penzance Musical, Oh, Mary!), and Marcia Marcia Marcia (Cabaret), among others. Many Drag Race contestants have also appeared in various productions, including Willam in Titanique and Nina West on the national tour of Hairspray.

Alongside his stage work, Bob has kept busy with multiple television appearances. He was a central figure on the HBO docuseries We're Here, where he worked with fellow Drag Race stars Shangela and Eureka to perform drag makeovers for rural American communities. The show, which has earned several Emmys and a Peabody Award in 2022, continues to resonate with audiences nationwide.

Bob has also appeared on reality competition shows like Peacocks The Traitors, where he was infamously banished in the fourth episode. Aside from his television and stage career, Bob has been a regular in the Drag Race franchise, making guest appearances in seasons 10, All Stars 9, and the spinoff Secret Celebrity Drag Race. He is also the host of the aftershow The Pit Stop and co-hosts the popular podcast Sibling Rivalry with Mont X Change.

Bob's upcoming Broadway stint in Moulin Rouge! will run for eight weeks, beginning January 27 and concluding on March 22. Fans can look forward to a stunning performance that promises to bring a fresh, dazzling take on the beloved character of Harold Zidler.
