Exclusive: Season 18 cast interviews from "RuPaul's Drag Race" uncover spicy show romance in 'back to basics' fierce competition

The cast of RuPaul's Drag Race season 18 recently spoke exclusively with Entertainment Weekly, revealing behind-the-scenes drama, budding romances, and a return to the shows competitive roots.

Orlandos Myki Meeks describes the new season as back to basics, capturing the classic energy of early Drag Race editions. According to Myki, the queens are experienced performers who are confident and fully prepared for the challenges, making the competition feel authentic and pageant-like.

Many cast members bring impressive resumes. Mia Starr has performed in productions with pop icons like Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna. Others, such as Plane Jane, Morphine Love Dion, Bosco, and Irene the Alien, come from established drag lineages. Athena Dion even counts Gloria Estefan and The View cohosts Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin among her longtime influences.

The season isnt without romance. Alabamas Vita VonTesse Starr, an accomplished pageant queen, reportedly shares a special connection with Athena Dion. Fellow contestant Juicy Love Dion confirmed the flirtation, while DD Fuego noted the duos chemistry. Vita herself laughed off the rumors, calling Athena very passionate and special.

Drama is also alive and well. Bostons Briar Blush playfully labeled the rest of the cast as 13 other girls I dont give a f--- about, earning her the unofficial title of season villain in the casts superlative game. Briar, who once worked as an unlicensed mortician, brings a mischievous energy that contrasts with the seasoned professionalism of other queens like Vita.

Seattles Jane Dont highlights the mentorship of drag veterans Bosco and Irene, calling them her hot, mean older sisters. Jane also sported a pink eyeball purse reminiscent of season 3 winner Raja, though she insists its purely coincidental.

While the queens honor the legacies of those who came before them, season 18 emphasizes individuality and performance mastery. This edition balances heartfelt camaraderie, romantic sparks, and the cutthroat excitement that fans expect from the show.

RuPaul's Drag Race season 18 premieres Friday, January 2, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, with new episodes of Untucked following each week.
