A circulating video showing an Iraqi woman claiming to exploit Swedens welfare system to its fullest is authentic. The woman, identified as Tara Sabah Mohammed Saleh, later explained that her statements were sarcastic and made during a TikTok Live session in response to hostile messages urging her to go home.
The original clip was reposted on Instagram on July 15, 2025, featuring Saleh wearing a hijab and speaking Swedish, with English subtitles suggesting she deliberately used taxpayers money and state benefits to the max. A Swedish report described her as a proPalestinian activist known for outspoken posts directed at Sweden on social platforms.
Saleh confirmed to Lead Stories via Facebook Messenger on November 29, 2025, that the remarks came from her previous TikTok livestream. She stated that her tone was intentionally sarcastic, reacting to xenophobic comments questioning her place in the country. She also provided a longer version of the footage for context.
A red banner in the extended video displayed Swedish text translating to: When you think you can intimidate or silence Tara by shaming her online. In the recording, she delivers exaggerated statements about having no borders, supposedly making life difficult for others, and maximizing Swedish benefitsremarks she insists were meant to mock those attacking her.
According to Swedish media coverage, Salehs provocative language has drawn significant attention and positioned her as a symbolic figure among nationalist groups. The same coverage noted she previously stated that some of her widely shared comments were sarcastic in nature.
Context and Clarification: Tara Sabah Mohammed Saleh’s Viral Remarks
The viral video featuring Tara Sabah Mohammed Saleh, an Iraqi woman allegedly exploiting Sweden's welfare system, has sparked considerable controversy. However, as Saleh clarified, her remarks were sarcastic, intended as a response to hostile comments rather than a serious claim of benefit misuse. The original video, which circulated widely in July 2025, showed Saleh making exaggerated statements about her exploitation of Swedish taxpayer funds. But the full context, revealed through an extended version of the footage, indicates that her comments were aimed at mocking xenophobic online attacks.
Saleh confirmed her sarcastic tone in a conversation with Lead Stories, adding that her comments were meant to counter offensive messages suggesting she “go home.” In the longer video, a red banner highlighted her response to those attempting to shame her, reinforcing the satirical nature of her statements. Despite her explanation, the video’s viral nature has turned her into a controversial figure, with nationalist groups interpreting her remarks as provocations, and some media outlets framing her as a representative of a divisive narrative.
The situation underscores the challenges of online communication, where tone can be easily misinterpreted, and the potential for misinformation to spread rapidly. While Saleh’s statements were intended to challenge xenophobic sentiments, they have inadvertently become a symbol in the ongoing debate surrounding immigration and national identity in Sweden.
