On Saturday, Nancy Sinatra emphasized to her followers that her father, the legendary singer Frank Sinatra, had a strong aversion to former President Donald Trump. Responding to a video showing ICE officers confronting Latino construction workers, Nancy, 85, wrote on X: This is not my fathers America. He would be devastated. Trump is so wrong in so many ways.
When a user commented, Your Dad would have loved Trump,
Nancy replied sharply: Do some homework before you make a fool of yourself. My dad LOATHED Trump.
This is not the first time Nancy Sinatra has spoken out about her fathers political opinions. The These Boots Are Made for Walkin singer has previously reminded fans that Frank Sinatra, famed for hits like My Way and Thats Life, did not support Trump. In 2017, when reports surfaced that My Way could be played at Trumps inauguration, Nancy noted on Twitter: Just remember the first line of the song,
which begins, And now, the end is near.
Despite her criticisms, Nancy once expressed a hopeful sentiment toward Trump, saying she did not believe anyone intends to be a bad president. In 2020, Trump publicly honored Frank Sinatra in a speech and referenced plans to include him in a monument to American heroes.
Actress and activist Mia Farrow, who was once married to Frank Sinatra, also weighed in on X, tweeting: Frank Sinatra would have loathed Donald Trump,
to which Nancy confirmed, He actually did loathe him.
Reports from 1990 indicate that Frank Sinatra once told Trump to go f*** himself over a dispute regarding performance fees at the opening of Trumps Atlantic City casino. According to Sinatras former manager, Elliot Weisman, Frank was given the option to either let his manager relay the message or call Trump directly.
Frank Sinatras political stance evolved over the decades. In the 1940s and 1950s, he was a staunch Democrat, supporting Franklin D. Roosevelt, speaking against racism and fascism, and backing civil rights causes. He also actively supported John F. Kennedys 1960 campaign, even adapting High Hopes for the effort. Later, as political circumstances shifted and concerns arose about Sinatras alleged mob connections, he grew closer to Republican figures. By the late 1960s and 1970s, he endorsed Republicans like Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon.
