  3. Fuerza Regida's Year of Generosity: Demonstrating the Strength of Unity for the Mexican-American Band.

This year has been particularly challenging for Californians. Early in the year, over a dozen wildfires swept across the Los Angeles area, displacing families and destroying neighborhoods. Later, immigrant communities were deeply affected by widespread ICE raids, resulting in numerous arrests across Southern California and the Central Coast.

Amid these crises, the San Bernardino-based Mexican-American band Fuerza Regida took decisive action, turning difficult circumstances into tangible support. Their humanitarian efforts earned them recognition as Variety Hitmakers Humanitarians of the Year.

When the fires erupted, everything happened so fast, says frontman Jess Ortiz Paz. As a band, alongside the Street Mob Records family, we knew we needed to act. Our first step was securing hotel rooms for families who had nowhere to turn. We were fortunate to be able to provide immediate relief.

Since their rise in the msica mexicana scene, including their highest U.S. chart debut at No. 2 with their ninth album, 111Xpantia, Fuerza Regida has made community support central to their mission. They have assisted families affected by wildfires, funded scholarships, and provided legal aid, consistently transforming their success into meaningful action for the communities that nurtured them.

In January, the band provided temporary shelter for more than 50 households impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires. In April, they launched four full-ride 111Xpantia Scholarships at Cal State San Bernardino, requiring applicants to maintain a 3.0 GPA and submit essays. The scholarships attracted over 270 applicants, setting a university record for a single award.

We believe that if we are blessed, we should bless others, says Paz. Its a principle we were raised with our parents instilled in us the importance of giving back to the community.

Fuerza Regida began performing at local parties and events in 2017 and recently established a headquarters for their independent label, Street Mob Records, to develop and support songwriters, producers, and artists. In November, they hosted the second Dont Fall in Love Fest at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, featuring artists such as Future and Banda MS.

We grew up in the Inland Empire, and we saw firsthand what our community needed, says Paz. When we support a cause, its personal. Providing meals, shelter, and educational opportunities are ways we can uplift others.

In May, Fuerza Regida collaborated with comedian Druski on a limited-edition merchandise line, with all proceeds going to the Immigrant Defenders Law Center. That same month, they partnered with local hat makers, donating all proceeds from the collection to legal aid for families affected by immigration enforcement while supporting small businesses.

It was important to unite neighbors and local brands, Paz explains. We are stronger together.

The band also assisted Marys Mercy Center in Californias Inland Empire, supplying 14 carts of essential items to help the center continue operations despite federal funding cuts. In August, they teamed up with Dos Equis for a charity auction supporting the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation, raising funds for childcare, job training, and family services in Latino communities across California.

We take pride in the difference weve made and intend to continue our efforts, says Paz. Recognition is meaningful, but our true goal is to inspire community support and expand our reach wherever our fans are.

Author's Commentary: Fuerza Regida's Impact Beyond Music

The events of this year have tested the resilience of Californians, from destructive wildfires to targeted immigration enforcement. In the face of these crises, Fuerza Regida has not only maintained their musical momentum but translated their success into immediate and sustained community support.

By providing emergency shelter for wildfire-affected families, establishing full-ride scholarships at Cal State San Bernardino, and funding legal aid for immigrant communities, the band has demonstrated a proactive and organized approach to humanitarian work. Their efforts reflect a consistent philosophy: success in the music industry carries a responsibility to uplift the communities that support it.

Fuerza Regida's collaborations with local businesses and charitable organizations further illustrate the breadth of their impact. From merchandise lines benefiting legal advocacy groups to partnerships with foundations supporting Latino families, their actions reinforce a principle of collective empowerment.

Recognition by Variety as Humanitarians of the Year acknowledges the tangible difference the band has made, but the true measure lies in the continued support they provide. Fuerza Regida exemplifies how artists can leverage visibility and resources to address immediate needs while fostering long-term community resilience.
